Music
Our pupils in Broadoaks British School enjoy a rich music experience. They listen to the works of period composers and to those of living legends. Our students sing expressively in groups and are given solo opportunities in concerts and in theatre productions. They understand written music, and each pupil is trained to play a musical instrument
Curriculum overview for the Key Stages
Music is embedded throughout Broadoaks British School. Listening to music of varying forms, singing songs from different genres, writing music theory, and learning to play string, wind, and percussion instruments are all covered in dedicated curriculum time. Every child is thus exposed to the fundamentals of music. The theory of music begins with tracing and goes all the way to online exercises. Practice leads to performance opportunities and performance grade examinations.
Our children are introduced to rhythm in key stage one using percussion instruments like maracas, tambourines, and tuned drums. Definite pitch work starts in key stage two on instruments like the recorder, violin, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and piano. Key stage three students explore solo and ensemble settings playing whichever instruments they choose.
Concerts and Events
At the weekly assembly, annual graduation ceremony, and end-of-year musical theatre production, these emerging talents can show off their skills, first to the school community and then to a live audience of parents, siblings, and friends. There are performance opportunities every term from the Christmas concert to the Omens of Spring, Music Recitals, World Music Day, and the whole-school theatre production.
