Music Department

Music is embedded throughout Broadoaks British School. Listening to music of varying forms, singing songs from different genres, writing music theory and learning to play string, wind and percussion instruments are all covered in dedicated curriculum time. Every child is thus exposed to the fundamentals of music. Theory of music begins with tracing and goes all the way to online exercises. Practice leads to performance opportunities or performance grade examinations, or both.

Additionally, children who show notable vocal and instrumental strengths in the classroom are introduced to the school choir and orchestra whereas those who wish to pursue unique solo experiences find a place in the music club.

At the weekly assembly, annual graduation ceremony and end of year musical theatre production, these emerging talents get the chance to show-off their skills, first to the school community and then to a live audience of parents, siblings and friends.

Whether the children are in the classroom for lessons or on stage for rehearsals, teachers continually scout for students who may be presented for reputable graded examinations such as those of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London College of Music and the Musical Society of Nigeria School of Music.
